About the Opportunity
The Embedded Software Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, implementing, and testing software for embedded Linux devices that are used to control LSM transport systems. The Embedded Software Engineer is required to interface with the hardware, software, and customer support groups to ensure the software design and testing meets the requirements of all stakeholders and to ensure the successful delivery of software to end customers. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for becoming familiar with MagneMotion's multi-level control system for LSM transport and in particular the PLC interfaces between MagneMotion's system and the customers system.
This person will assume responsibility for multiple software and projects during the development and testing phases. Specifically the person will:
Design, develop, troubleshoot, debug, and maintain embedded Linux software written in the C' programming language for a multi-level LSM transport control system.
Ensure adherence to software development process and configuration management systems
Ensure timely deliverables to project milestones.
Work with the software group as well as the hardware, SQA, and customer support groups to ensure delivered software meets all functional requirements.
Be knowledgeable of Ethernet network functionality and capabilities.
Ability to set up, configure, and troubleshoot LSM transport systems for software development.
Communicate effectively to management and to all stakeholder groups.
Minimal travel may be required
BS in Computer Science
7+ years embedded software development experience
General understanding of Linux operating system and C' programming
Strong knowledge of Linux application programming including network APIs (sockets), serial ports, IPC mechanisms, timers, system calls, I/O, device driver APIs
Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking
Rockwell Logix PLC programming capability as applied to motion control systems a plus
Linux kernel configuration, device driver implementation, kernel network and routing stack a plus
Understanding of web CGI and BASH shell scripting a plus
Knowledge of Buildroot, gcc toolchain management, remote embedded debugging mechanisms a plus.
Understanding of motion control concepts and LSM technology a plus
General understanding of highly distributed, multi-level control systems, especially applying to transport systems.
General understanding of engineering disciplines, especially software development and test, design verification and validation
Well organized with strong technical and communication skills
