Operations Control

Operations Control is a new team that will be the front line group within Operations accountable for assessing and ensuring the effective management of associated risks for Operations groups across the Enterprise. This team counsels group leadership on the Operations risk portfolio which includes issue management, remediation and regulatory interactions and facilitates strong cooperation between operations, independent risk management and Audit.

The Role

This role will report to the Operations Risk & Control Sr. Director covering Enterprise Utilities and will serve as the key point of contact for all matters pertaining to the overall risk management program. The individual will be responsible for working with leaders to manage and mitigate risk through, risk assessment, issue management, control design and effectiveness and control evaluation activities. The individual will work closely with other Operations Control leaders to lead and promote a strong risk culture to ensure effective communication and collaborative partnerships. Opportunities for process improvement and control enhancement will be a critical focus area, partnering with all three lines of defense, in order to enhance first line control effectiveness and efficiency end to end.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Managing risk and control governance, reporting and escalation
• Partnering with leaders to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address known gaps and deficiencies in an effective and timely manner
• Ensuring that the group's strategic plans incorporate risk and associated activities consistent with the enterprise risk framework and risk appetite statements
• Providing input to the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the overall risk management processes
• Ensuring planned activities are consistent with the Enterprise Risk frameworks, policies and programs and risk appetite framework, and are well-calibrated and integrated within the group
• Planning staffing capacity and skills to properly manage the risk
• Escalating concerns and issues to Senior Leadership, Independent Risk Management, Management Committees and the Board as appropriate
• Managing relationships and fostering a team orientation with other leaders, business control executives, independent risk management, legal, audit and multiple regulators
• Building a high performing risk management and controls organization that meets heightened risk management expectations

The successful candidate will also work closely with Senior Managers across Operations in the development and execution of the company's risk management strategies. Accordingly, critical success factors will include the ability to develop partnerships with many functional areas, provide insight into the regulatory climate and identify trends which may present opportunities or reflect gaps in the Operation's group's strategic execution/direction.

As a Team Member Manager, you are expected to achieve success by leading yourself, your team, and the business. Specifically you will:

• Lead your team with integrity and create an environment where your team members feel included, valued, and supported to do work that energizes them.
• Accomplish management responsibilities which include sourcing and hiring talented team members, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, recognizing and developing team members, identifying and managing risks, and completing daily management tasks.

Location: New York, NY; Charlotte, NC; Dallas, TX; Minneapolis, MN preferred, Other Wells Fargo core markets will be considered

• 7+ years of management experience
• 10+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 10+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 7+ years must include direct experience in risk management

• Experience with first line controls around operations processes related to specific regulatory requirements, including currency transaction reports, customer data management, and SAFE Act registrations
• Strong working knowledge of financial crimes operations and relevant risks and controls of the business
• Working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) concepts andpolicies across risk types (regulatory, financial crimes, credit, operational, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and interpersonal); ability to concisely articulate complex concepts in a clear manner
• Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
• Highly professional, adaptable and pro-active mindset
• Ability to translate technical language into plain business language
• Demonstrated capability to confidently raise issues, escalate early, and engage in constructive credible challenge independently
• Technical understanding of specific business operations, processes, products, and customer interactions where they manifest risk
• Ability to develop high performing, diverse risk structure in a highly matrixed environment
• Ability to assess and determine when to raise concerns and escalate
• Pro-actively resolve conflict and maintain objectivity
• Ability to conceptualize, develop, and deliver quality analysis and highly-actionable actionable management information
• Demonstrated capacity to pro-actively and independently analyze and solve problems and address risks
