PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:

Your research and recommendations will have a meaningful impact on client outcomes and firm success. Analysts at Thornburg are expected to investigate and provide fundamental analysis for new and existing positions, leading to well-formulated theses and recommendations to portfolio teams.  Analysts are also responsible for ongoing monitoring of information which may impact the value of investments, and for proactively communicating key insights and conclusions to all team members through written and oral communications. Analysts are expected to contribute to the success of all Thornburg investment strategies, which requires the ability to identify investment opportunities across sectors, geographies, and investment styles.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Qualitatively and quantitatively analyze equity securities for investment purposes. Be knowledgeable and provide insight regarding business strengths and weaknesses, and a company’s ability to execute its strategy.  Leverage skills in accounting, finance and economics to create and maintain financial models on individual companies.
  • Monitor individual securities on an ongoing basis. Interpret and communicate developments that may impact share price performance on a longer-term basis such as macro-economic news and company-specific developments.
  • Serve in a global generalist capacity, with coverage responsibilities spanning geographies and industries.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Advanced degree and/or progress toward CFA is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as an equity-oriented buyside or sellside research analyst, or
  • 2+ years of experience in investment banking, private equity, consulting, or a similar field, or
  • 3+ years of experience in a financial and/or accounting role such as corporate strategy, corporate development or planning, investor relations, etc.
  • Experience in stocks across sectors and market capitalizations, particularly “SMID” caps is valuable, but not necessary.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector and particularly sub-industries like biotech is valuable, but not necessary.

  • Strong analytical skills to understand and predict business trends, financial outcomes, assess valuations, and consider ESG characteristics
  • Ability to conduct deep research and provide high quality analysis for potential or current investments
  • A sense of urgency to respond quickly to new information which could impact investments
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing
  • Intellectual flexibility and nimbleness as required by Thornburg’s global generalist process
  • The willingness and ability to express an opinion and make recommendations with imperfect or incomplete information, as supported by a synthesis of available facts
  • A willingness to change opinions as facts change or new information is obtained, and the comfort to admit mistakes and learn from them
  • A commitment to contribute to the success of the investment team and firm by demonstrating respect and support of all employees, willingly sharing thoughts with the broad team, and being comfortable giving and receiving feedback and respectfully debating ideas, which are reflected in one’s:
  • Desire to win as a team more than as an individual
  • Commitment to improving the Thornburg investment process
  • Willingness to engage across departments
  • Focus on driving outcomes for clients


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel occasionally
