The Impact You'll Make in this Role The person hired for this opportunity will provide product quality leadership and support for new product introductions and continuous improvement programs on existing product line. At the same time, participating on new product introduction teams to lead quality work package, support existing product lines to achieve high quality products with capable manufacturing processes and drive quality improvement projects to increase customer satisfaction and reduce cost. Here, you will make an impact by: - Driving existing product quality enhancement through use of continuous improvement methods and tools, such as: Six Sigma, Product and Process Understanding (PPU), Design of Experiments (DOE), Customer Quality Index (CQI) and Quality at the Source.
- Supporting and interacting with customers through complaint investigations, resolution, and trending.
- Ensuring the commercialized product design intent and product integrity is retained as materials, processes, methods, and specifications change.
- Supporting change as it relates to design changes inspired by quality improvement, source of supply changes, or cost reduction efforts.
- Trouble shooting, investigating, and analyzing for non-conforming product testing and disposition.
- Participate on new product introduction teams to lead quality work package
- Leading pro-active efforts in product quality and process capability improvements.
- Developing, assessing, improving and validating test methods.
- Setting manufacturing specifications including raw materials, in process and final product.
- Evaluating product and process changes for impact on product performance.
- Investigating customer complaints/trends and conduct root cause analysis to promote complaint resolution to customer satisfaction.
- Designing and executing validations.
- Driving process improvement and corrective/preventive action programs to completion for both design and manufacturing changes.
- Creating actionable data to drive quality improvement programs.
- Working and interacting significantly with other functions (lab, plant manufacturing, pilot plant, regulatory, clinical, etc.
- Supporting Quality Management Systems (QMS) activities including audits, Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPAs), etc.
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: - Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
- Three (3) years' combined manufacturing, production and/or quality experience within a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: - Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science from an accredited institution
- Prefer statistical experience/training. Use of statistical methods as a tool in decision making.
- Statistical knowledge and practice e.g. Design of Experiments (DOE), Sampling Plans, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Process and Product Understanding (PPU), and Lean Manufacturing
- Advanced experience in a quality function, manufacturing/production plant, and/or reactive chemistries environment
- Experience running small scale investigative experimentation in a laboratory or pilot plant
- Deep emphasis on applied statistical applications and continuous improvement methodologies
- Support and/or lead efforts on life cycle management, risk management, product and process improvements, and other product documentation efforts
- Five (5) years combined Product, Quality and/or Manufacturing Engineering experience
- Prefer medical device and/or quality management system experience such as Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Quality System Regulation (QSR) and/or International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 13485
- Experience in test method development and validations
- Product commercialization experience
- Effectively conducting root cause analysis and managing CAPA programs
- Change management experience
- Understanding of quality and regulatory standards as they pertain to medical device and pharmaceutical products
- Strong demonstrated ability to lead teams, identify opportunities for improvement and drive change
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Proven results managing projects to completion
- Strong communication skills (written, oral and presentation)
- Experience working on a global cross-functional team
- Demonstrates knowledge of customer requirements and product performance in dental business
- Six Sigma training and/or experience leading Green Belt or Black Belt projects
- American Society for Quality, Quality Engineer (CQE) certification or willingness to obtain
