Sr. Fund Accountant

JOB SUMMARY Under supervision, performs accounting and reporting including set up and accounting for investment entities. Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual portfolio level consolidated financial statements and other client reporting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Statement: Supports production of fund financial statements and other required financial information including but not limited to investor funded and unfunded commitments, asset accrual methodology and output. Supports preparation of periodic financial statements and assists with audit and tax preparation and audit review. Preparing JV waterfall calculations. Ensuring all fund transactions are properly posted to accounting system. Completes in an accurate and timely manner. Monitors Financial Performance: Monitors and compiles financial data. Performs reviews of parts of monthly property level reports. Oversight of investment accounting, fund level reporting and investor reporting. Treasury Function: Supports the daily activities of the treasury, cash management and accounting function of the fund. Assists with posting journal entries and money-movement transactions. Ensures all fund transactions are properly posted to accounting system. Assists with preparing and reconciling trial balances for assigned funds. In the US, supports preparation of investment and positions reconciliations and daily reconciliation of cash balances. Performs periodic asset payment, cash and corporate action reconciliations. Risk Management: Supports senior team members in the management of risk and compliance activities. Investors' Reporting: Supports preparation of investor capital call/distribution notices. Supports preparation of IRR and performance reporting models: NCREIF, GIPS and IRR. Customer Service: Executes on processes and procedures, and constantly provides feedback on process improvement. Performs administrative tasks as required. Troubleshoots escalated issues and ensures internal and external customer requests are handled timely, accurately and with a focus on customer service. Systems Implementation: Participates in systems testing and implementation-related tasks. Provides data, information and has in depth supporting role in an audit process. Special Projects: May participate in special projects including new fund set-up and fund closures. Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or portfolio-specific training to others. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE Degree from a four-year college or university program with an emphasis in accounting, finance or related field required. A minimum of three years accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Prior experience in fund level accounting preferred with real estate accounting or fund accounting software systems. CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES Certified Accountant qualifications in relevant jurisdictions or working towards this. COMMUNICATION SKILLS Solid written and verbal communication skills. Solid organizational and analytical skills. Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers. Ability to effectively present information. FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE Requires intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations including an intermediate knowledge of financial terms and principles to include accounting methods (cash, accrual, and full GAAP). Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and/or commissions. Conducts intermediate financial analysis. Foundational technical financial skills and knowledge of GAAP, FASB, REIS, IFRS, and inregion/in-country standards. REASONING ABILITY Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills. OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES Intermediate knowledge of computer software and hardware (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite Products). Ability to work in multiple accounting software applications. Yardi system. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY Decisions made with general understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines. Responsible for setting own project deadlines. Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to clients, co-workers and supervisor.
