Summer Associate candidates can expect a full-time onsite internship program in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, running from June 1, 2022 to August 12, 2022.
Carefully selected from universities across the country, our interns bring distinctive ideas and perspectives to our organization. Our employees are passionate about building our emerging talent and future leaders. After application and initial screening conversation, interns are aligned interview and be hired to a specific team at NM based on their skillsets and interests, providing exposure to real-world business perspectives through hands-on learning and meaningful work. In addition to their day-to-day tasks, interns participate in professional development workshops, senior leadership Q&A's, volunteer initiatives, networking/social events, and more!
Consulting & General Management Summer Associate
As a Summer Associate, you will support our Career Distribution function and work alongside your hiring manager, mentor, and team to complete tasks critical for Northwestern Mutual's success. We are here to help you both identify and continue to develop your future career goals and passions. Job responsibilities include:
Apply a Strategy Consulting toolkit: problem solving and experience-based judgement to the complex challenges of these businesses i.e. - local strategy, financial management, talent development optimization, culture refinement, regulatory compliance and leadership development
Learn with, support and engage our entrepreneur leaders in driving execution of business plans and align these plans with the Company strategy. Examples could include staging, sequencing and delivery of strategic initiatives Collaborate with leaders to operationalize and execute strategy locally
Provide real time feedback and collaboration with corporate partners on the development of strategic initiatives
Complete special projects as assigned by the Career Distribution Leadership team
Past intern projects have included: Organization Design Study, New Office Expansion, Stimulus Program Effectiveness, Local Office Expense Reduction, Underrepresented Market Analysis, and Managing Partner Retirement
Bring Your Best! What this role needs. Minimum qualifications
First year standing in accredited MBA, Masters of Science in Finance, or similar program
Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
Previous work or classroom experience in one or more of the following: Financial Services, Consulting, General Management or Entrepreneurship

Preferred skills and proficiencies
Aptitude to critically and logically evaluate costs, risks and benefits of alternatives before coming to a solution
Skilled at engaging and modeling courageous, consultative and constructive dialogue; confidence to offer a new and potentially challenging ideas to foster conversation and critical thinking
Ability to deliver difficult and/or complex messages and help others understand multiple points of view
Effective oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
High degree of self-motivation, passion, and a drive to learn
Ability to balance multiple priorities
