Manage all accounting close and reporting activities of the organization's Americas Region. Responsibilities include managing and communicating the monthly close and reporting expectations, coordination with regional accounting, business finance, and shared services organizations, and ensuring the timeliness, completeness and accuracy of key regional close deliverables. The ideal candidate is a proven leader that has a strong public accounting background, meaningful experience with the close and reporting processes of a large global matrix organization, and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees the accounting close and reporting activities of the Americas Region which includes coordinating with accounting and business finance teams in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America.
Responsible for establishing, communicating and monitoring a robust calendar of accounting and reporting deadlines and deliverables for the region to coincide with key management and external reporting deadlines.
Collaborates with counterparts in Europe and Asia to enhance global consistency in close timing, processes, and deliverables and to share best practices and opportunities for improvement.
Ensures that key close activities and timing are clearly communicated in advance of deadlines; works with appropriate stakeholders in controllership, finance, technology, and shared service center organizations during the close to ensure the timely resolution of process issues or exceptions.
Analyzes existing close-related processes and activities; leads the team in the identification and prioritization of process improvements to improve the accuracy and timing of the close. Works with regional controllership, finance, technology, shared service centers, and business leaders to implement enhancements to the close timeline and process.
Interprets current accounting guidance and policies; coordinates with the technical accounting, policy and SEC reporting teams to facilitate correct and consistent regional implementation of applicable policies and procedures and the appropriate accounting treatment of material transactions.
Serves as key point of contact with internal and external auditors on regional accounting matters.
Monitors and enforces the timely completion of account reconciliations for the region.
Establishes and communicates the team's goals and strategy in conformity with the goals of the broader finance organization.
Responsible for the development and performance management of direct reports and more junior team members.
Provides formal supervision to individual employees within single functional or operational area. Approves subordinate's recommendations for staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action and termination. Effectively recommends same for direct reports to next level management for review and approval. Plans and monitors appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime. Prepares and delivers performance appraisal for staff. Mentors and coaches team members to further develop competencies. Leads by example and models behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
