What you’ll be doing...
The Tax Audit Manager of Wireline Audits is responsible for managing sales/use and gross receipts tax audits of select Verizon entities, an audit inventory and associated reserves. This position partners with the Transaction Tax Reporting Group, Tax Legal and the Research and Planning Group on all technical matters to ensure that all deliverables are met. You will negotiate audit settlements, complete tax research, demonstrate an understanding audit techniques (i.e., statistical sampling), think analytically and strategically, analyze and reconcile billing and accounts payable systems to the general ledger. You will utilize knowledge in the area of transaction taxes imposed upon telecommunications products, services, and the purchases by telecommunications companies would be beneficial.
Manage assigned Wireline sales/use and gross receipts tax audits to yield best results for Verizon in the most efficient manner possible.
Develop an audit package and strategy to resolve audits.
Meet with and present materials to auditors from taxing jurisdictions.
Identify and communicate on issues to be resolved resulting from audit findings.
Calculate, establish and monitor FAS 5 Reserves for Contingent Gains and Losses related to audits assigned.
Partner with other tax groups in order to meet the goals of the tax department.
Present audit profiles, exposures and other relevant audit developments to upper management.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline, or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience with an emphasis on sales/use and gross receipts tax.
Practical experience with Financial Accounting Standards Statement Number 5 (FAS 5).
Experience in utilizing technical resources and research analysis in tax accounting.
Audit experience in tax accounting.
Experience with technological tools including Excel, Alteryx, and SAP.
Practical experience in handling audits and balancing workloads and deliverables.
Experience in meeting time sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision.
Experience in giving presentations to leadership within a tax organization.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Master’s in Taxation.
Experience with a large public accounting firm.
Experience as an auditor for a taxing authority.
Experience in the sales/use and gross receipts tax field in Big 4 public accounting firms and/or Fortune 500 corporate tax departments.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
