What you’ll be doing...
The Consumer Communications Manager will be responsible for conceptualizing and executing proactive communications initiatives for Verizon’s Consumer group, including compelling storytelling via media relations, digital and virtual campaigns and experiential engagement and events for press and employees. The role requires creative idea generation with a focus on project management and execution, often creating and leveraging a host of integrated marketing efforts through a mix of tactics, channels and activities. Core to this role is the ability to work collaboratively and creatively while maintaining and developing relationships with national consumer and tech media that help drive a narrative around next-gen products, services and offers.
This creative, multidimensional position requires extensive engagement and collaboration with key company stakeholders across the business (integrated marketing, GTM, business unit marketing, local PR leads, social channel owners, owned and operated platforms, network leads, etc.), as well as with major content and technology partners and leading manufacturers. The candidate will help drive strategic news and visibility around consumer products and services, including new partnerships, plans, promotions and initiatives that often cut across the entire organization.
This position requires keen communications intuition, stellar writing, and interpersonal skills, strong executive presence, a team-player approach and ability to connect dots across all areas of the business. The ideal candidate will be a creative communications/PR professional who has the ability to navigate strategically throughout a large organization with a focus on measurable program success, including shifting consumer perception and driving the sales funnel on behalf of the consumer group. Bonus if you have on-camera/production experience. Audiences include external media and internal employee population.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Serve as a communications expert with strong media relationships in consumer, lifestyle, multicultural and/or tech and proven ability to place strategic stories and drive innovative campaigns across new mediums.
Creative approach to sharing information with consumers and employees in a simple, digestible way.
Interface with internal groups, including Social, Marketing, Sponsorships, Employee Comms, Network, Business, and Media groups and specific consumer product leads to drive narrative, garner national visibility, and increase sales.
Outreach and ongoing collaboration with Verizon’s owned and operated properties to help promote, align with and/or reinforce campaigns.
Help prepare leaders and subject matter experts for interviews and speaking engagements for maximum results, including messaging prep and media training as needed
Align with corporate strategies and initiatives; help develop external campaigns that promote and position the company for the future.
Seek out new and unexpected opportunities for us to play and drive those forward.
Help manage crisis/issues management as needed.
Regular measurement and reporting out on campaign success
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
A degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
Seven or more years of experience in consumer/lifestyle public relations or relevant field of media relations, employee communications, marketing publicity and/or tech; Experience managing an agency and/or working at an agency.
Diverse experience, cultural competency, and a broad worldview are all assets in working in our dynamic, multicultural marketplace.
Sound judgment and a high degree of professionalism, maturity, and confidentiality.
Experience bringing new consumer tech products/solutions to market via innovative campaign strategies.
Proven ability to understand complex business issues and how they impact the bottom line and develop strategic public relations/marketing/communications programs with measurable results
A true team player. A highly collaborative and approachable individual that’s willing to push boundaries, be nimble and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
A forward thinker who has the ability to lead complex initiatives by working in a tightly integrated manner across business units and partner organizations.
Excellent communicator both in spoken and written word with a passion for making news and driving engagement.
Stellar organizational and project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple, often conflicting priorities to successful completion.
Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to build successful relationships with internal stakeholders, including those at the senior executive level.
