The Impact You'll Make in this Role The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Engineer will primarily be responsible for actively supporting safety initiatives and driving improvements in quality, service, and cost. Developing and leading programs to improve product and process/quality understanding while working in cross functional teams to ensure continuous quality improvement. The engineer will support the Multi-Layer Optical Film (MOF) products produced for FMRD Film in Decatur, AL.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Development and implementation of improvements related to safety, quality, service, and cost (productivity) in the Decatur Multi-Layer Optical Film (MOF) areas
Ability to perform root cause analysis and apply systematic problem-solving skills
Development and implementation of cross-functional projects, plans, and programs in support of business and strategic plans new process start-ups, new process technology integration, aggressive cost reduction, and supply chain improvement using Lean Six Sigma tools
Drive process development, recommend new equipment and modification to support cost improvements and new product introductions
As necessary, ability to cover production runs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in an engineering discipline from an accredited institution
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical or Chemical engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Two (2) years of experience in a private, public, government, or military environment in one or more of the following areas: process engineering, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, process development or quality
Experience in batch extrusion, film making, coating, and/or winding in a private, public, government or military environment
Strong organization, communication, project management, and coaching skills
Six Sigma or Quality Improvement training/certification
Experience working on a cross functional team
Excellent communication skills (oral, written and presentation)
Microsoft Office proficient
Travel: May include up to 10% Relocation Assistance: May be authorized
