The Analytical Innovation team is a new multi-disciplinary team that focuses on developing new analytical products for S&P Global Ratings and making controlled changes to existing products in the pursuit of analytical and operational excellence. The team works within the Research and Development segment of the S&P Global Ratings division of S&P Global. Our goal is to deliver analytical frameworks, tools, reports and training that allow analysts in S&P Global Ratings to provide essential intelligence into the financial markets. Together, we iterate and discover tactical solutions to help deliver new products and new insights, leveraging advanced research and data science techniques to that end. The solutions will directly impact our customers through new insights (research output) and products (customer engagements and product consumption) and the teams' efforts will support integration into S&P Global's system and data architecture seamless.
The business impact is centered on demonstrating that a multidisciplinary team can develop high quality analytical methodologies and product prototypes quickly. This helps S&P Global Ratings' maintain market relevance by providing analytical opinions and scores that customers can use in their own decision making. Recent examples of new products have been focused on Sustainable Finance most notably the ESG Evaluation and Green Evaluation. Future products could be on any topic where our analytical opinion can help our customers make informed decisions, including cyber risk.
Additionally, new analytical insights will aid in raising the skill level of 1,500 analysts, leveraging various advanced statistical and data science techniques and inferences, to increase the relevance of credit ratings as well as various Environmental, Social, and Governance factors which are embedded in products from S&P Global Ratings. An ability to adapt and communicate through presentations, research, and business communications will help raise the competence and relevance of our analysts globally.
Work in conjunction with data scientists to support delivery of team goals and other analysts across the organization to catalyze innovation throughout the organization
Experiment with data, automation, and AI to discover original insights and then training rating analysts on how to produce them and augment existing capabilities
Research capital market, ESG, and cyber risk developments to find original insights and communicate findings to key stakeholders and senior management; Stay abreast of financial market events, ratings criteria changes, and their implications
Write, publish, and present economic, financial markets, and other technically-oriented material to various audiences, including in Mandarin
Combine datasets (such as ratings, pricing, credit derivatives, macroeconomics, ESG, climate, and equity) and investigate key data relationships and construct features
Conduct quantitative and qualitative research, and apply various statistical techniques to analyze trends and communicate analysis to internal and external stakeholders
Manage Oracle databases including writing queries in SQL
Perform data aggregation, manipulation, and analysis using advanced tools including Python, R, and MatLab; build repeatable processes for scalability and comply with various applicable regulations.
Interpret research report details for clients, including bankers, risk managers, regulators, and media.
Actively contributing to a high-performance team culture; Foster and champion Diversity and Inclusion initiatives by supporting structural and cultural frameworks to encourage innovation, knowledge-share, and professional growth. Lead by example to catalyze innovation across the team
Actively engages with internal and external stakeholders to learn what ideas to test.
Partnering with other departments in S&P Global Ratings to ensure that our tactical solutions fit with our enterprise-wide approach to data, technology, and Compliance to help scale operations post launch.
Contribute to iterative methodology and tool development by the team.
Demonstrate the appropriate workplace behaviors and partnership and collaboration across the organization and following a measurable process that we use to develop analytical products and ideas in compliance with the Policy roles
What we're looking for
3-7 years in credit ratings or in a related role querying and analyzing fixed income data, developing analytical tools, and writing/publishing client-facing materials
Master's (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, or a related field
Track record of working on projects in a team-oriented environment
Programming in MatLab, Python, and R languages
Curiosity to research new ideas is essential
Willingness to learn new skills and get hands-on with tasks needed to deliver projects
Highly credible to internal and external constituents
Experience in making rating recommendations for an analytical practice and management meetings with issuers
Ability to work independently, think strategically and proven diagnostic ability are critical
Advanced quantitative modeling; utilizing knowledge of Black-Scholes, Black Litterman, Kealhofer, McQuown, and Vasicek (KMV);
Working with financial data processing, economic models;
Designing, developing, and maintaining functions, objects, and classes in object oriented programming systems, including MatLab;
Data collection and aggregation from financial data providers, including Haver, Bloomberg, Refinitiv, FactSet (or equivalent), and create and enhance financial charts using advanced data visualization techniques; and
