Manages the corporate financial analysis function, including activity-based management, cost-benefit analysis, corporate performance management, and other analyses involving all VSP companies' revenues, expenses, and other business results based on past, present, and future operations. Supports projects and other strategic initiatives across all VSP companies.
Direct research and analysis of business and financial information at a corporate level, including all VSP companies. Make recommendations and assist in establishing the strategic direction of VSP.
Oversee research, analyses, and reporting of fluctuations in financial and business results to identify trends and research variances. Make recommendations to improve company performance and resolve issues.
Oversee research, analyses, and reporting of fluctuations between actual financial results and forecasted amounts to advise management on potential areas of impact. Make recommendations for corrective action.
Assist in the preparation of corporate financial forecasts for the development of strategic business plans.
Oversee activity-based costing for all VSP companies. Make recommendations based upon data produced from this system.
Develop and maintain the Corporate Performance Management (Scorecard) methodolgy for all VSP companies and divisions. Partner with senior management to identify and measure key performance metrics.
Recommend changes to streamline financial and business systems and processes to ensure maximum efficiency and appropriate utilization of resources.
Prepare reports that outline VSP's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings to assist in financial decision-making.
Analyze and interpret various internal and external financial reports and statistics. Assist other areas of the company in providing competitive intelligence.
Research and adopt new developments in the field of financial planning and control to ensure VSP utilizes the most effective financial practices.
Monitor performance of direct reports. Provide prompt and objective coaching and counseling. Conduct performance reviews and recommend salary increases.
Assure effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility. Where appropriate, inform employees as to plans and progress. Conduct employee discussion sessions at regular and frequent intervals.
Prioritize, assign, and distribute work of the department personnel to ensure responsibility is at the appropriate level and team member skills are developed to support the department's business needs.
Identify, consolidate, and prioritize training needs and coordinate training programs that address the department's business needs.
Monitor unit's turnover, productivity and overall performance to ensure adequate staffing and performance that meet department standards.
Participate in the interviewing and hiring process for open positions within the department to ensure most qualified candidates are selected
Develop the unit budget. Monitor expenses to ensure unit costs are within established levels.
Coordinate with other units/departments to facilitate special requests, resolve workflow or production issues.
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum of 8 years of management experience with responsibilities for hiring, training, assigning work and managing performance of direct reports
CPA or MBA preferred
Demonstrated ability to conduct various types of analysis, including cost-benefit and alternative analysis
Proficient in spreadsheet applications and financial/analysis systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational, facilitation, and negotiation skills
Clean credit history as reported by credit report
Ability to regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of his/her job duties.
The working environment is generally favorable, lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
